Has your bunny stopped eating?
![]()
This problem can be related to diet or can occur because of an underlying illness. If your rabbit has stopped eating or pooping for 12 hours or more, please get your bunny to a rabbit savvy vet immediately! Your dog or cat vet normally are not trained in this area.

We highly recommend Northwood Animal Hospital. These vets are both trained in the proper treatment of GI Stasis and you will not pay ridiculous prices for their service.

Gastrolntestinal Stasis - aka: GI Stasis (The Silent Killer)
Some causes of GI Stasis:
Lack of exercise | |
Lack of hay | |
Pellet only diet | |
Human food (crackers, cookies, breads, nuts—never feed these to your bunny)
Feces strung together with hair
Stress (too much noise, loss of mate etc.) |
A common reason-lack of hay: A rabbit grooms themselves all the time and the fur they ingest must pass through their system; they can't cough it up like a cat can. That is the main reason why we encourage you to make sure your rabbit eats a lot of hay--it keeps their GI tract healthy.
